Young At Art Museum Presents Where the Wild Things Are: Maurice Sendak in His Own Words and Picture

DAVIE, Fla. – Explore your own inner “wild thing” at Young At Art Museum during Where the Wild Things Are: Maurice Sendak in His Own Words and Pictures, a national traveling exhibition that opens at Young At Art Museum on Sat., June 8 and continues through Sun., Sept. 15. Where the Wild Things Are is an engaging exhibition and interactive exploration of iconic images and characters from some of author Maurice Sendak’s most beloved books.
Throughout the exhibition, visitors will enjoy:

• Chicken Soup Bowl & Kitchen: Visitors can slide into a bowl full of foam soup and rice, stuffed carrots and rubber chickens or bake an imaginary meal in the kitchen designed from Sendak’s book In the Night Kitchen.

• Wild Things Fun Mirror: Wild things come to life when visitors don the costumes of their favorite Sendak characters.

• Rosie’s Stoop: Families can read Sendak’s books on the front steps of Rosie’s Brooklyn Brownstone, based on the book Really Rosie.

• Musical Masterpiece: Sendak created his books while listening to Mozart and Beethoven. In this interactive station, visitors can design unique masterpieces while listening to classical music.

“We are very excited to host our inaugural national traveling exhibition at the new Young At Art Museum, to which we’ve added our own hands-on creative spin,” said Young At Art Museum Executive Director/CEO Mindy Shrago. “The works of Maurice Sendak continue to delight children and families with his uniquely creative characters, and Where the Wild Things Are celebrates his books and illustrations while encouraging visitors of all ages to let loose their imaginary powers.”
Organized by the Breman Jewish Heritage Museum in Atlanta, many of the images in this exhibition are facsimiles taken from the original art in the Maurice Sendak Archive, which is housed at the Rosenbach Museum and Library, Philadelphia.
