Broward League of Cities Boosts Support of Education with Launch of the Student Ambassador Program
BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – Continuing its mission to support the future leaders of Broward County, The Broward League of Cities has announced it is now accepting applications for the inaugural year of the Student Ambassador Program. Offered to high school juniors who are residents of Broward County and attending any Broward County Public School or Charter School, in its first year the program will provide four students who plan to pursue a career in public administration, political science or other government-related field with valuable first-hand insight into public service.
The four selected students will represent their high schools at Broward League of Cities General Membership Meetings, Board of Directors Meetings and other functions pertaining to the operation of the Broward League of Cities during the Spring 2011 semester, starting in February. Under the tutelage of the Education Committee, the students will have the opportunity to meet with elected officials and learn the intricacies of governing at the municipal level.
“The Broward League of Cities is committed to providing students with the resources they need to pursue a career in government service, such as the new Student Ambassador Program and our Scholarship for Government Studies, now in its second year,” said Cooper City Mayor Debby Eisinger, chair of the Broward League of Cities Education Committee. “We want to encourage each student’s passion for government by offering juniors an opportunity to go ‘behind the scenes’ of municipal government. We encourage parents, teachers and friends to urge students who show an interest in government to fill out the applications.”
Last year, the Education Committee reinstituted the Scholarship for Government Studies and awarded four outstanding students from across Broward County. The available scholarships are made possible thanks to the generous personal contributions of elected officials throughout Broward County and several League of Cities Associate Members.
