The Broward Education Foundation and Dollar General are partnering together in this season of giving to bring holiday joy to area students. Local Dollar General stores are collecting canned goods and toys so that each deserving child will receive a toy basket in mid-December.
The holiday initiative is an extension of the innovative Tools for Schools program. This unique initiative empowers teachers from 200 Broward County public and charter Title I schools to visit the Tools for Schools warehouse and pick up donated school supplies at no charge to help meet the needs of their students.
“Our 19 locations in Broward County will be accepting donated toys, school supplies and canned goods to help support students who need it most,” said Chris Durso, Dollar General district manager. “Our shoppers will find an abundance of items they can purchase in our stores at everyday low prices to donate to the Broward Education Foundation. We are thrilled to be working with such a caring organization to provide a joyous holiday for area children.”
From now through December 13, Dollar General stores in Broward County, with locations in Coconut Creek, Coral Springs, Fort Lauderdale, Hallandale, Hollywood, Miramar, Pembroke Pines, Pompano Beach and Sunrise, are collecting donations for Tools for Schools.
“Dollar General is a great partner for Tools for Schools,” said Thomas Severino, President and CEO of Broward Education Foundation. “The needs of our students are real and we try every day to do what we can to help them. We cannot thank Dollar General enough for its generosity.”
