Developed by CRG, new state-of-the-art healthcare education facility will train critical nursing professionals to bolster the growing healthcare industry
Excel Construction of Florida, the leading industrial and commercial construction company servicing the southeastern U.S., together with national real estate and investment firm CRG, announce the completion of a new healthcare education facility for Chamberlain University. It also houses the administrative offices for the organization’s medical schools — Ross University School of Medicine and American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) — and the Medical Education Readiness Program. Adtalem is a national leader in post-secondary education and a leading provider of professional talent to the healthcare industry.
Located at 10315 USA Today Way, in the Miramar Park of Commerce, the project converted a former USA Today printing and distribution facility into a state-of-the-art educational center with elevated lecture-style classrooms, science labs, a simulation care center, a modern admissions center and faculty offices. The building also features student amenities including a well-appointed study area and comfortable study lounges.
“This project was unique and an excellent example of how we can take an existing building interior, in this case a newspaper printing facility, and transform it into a leading nursing school in the state of Florida,” said Excel Construction of Florida President Eric Wolf. “We created a learning environment that students will be excited about.”
Playing off the building structure’s original industrial characteristics, the modern renovation captures today’s design trends with large open ceiling areas spanning more than 25 feet. Existing skylights in the former production warehouse have also been incorporated into the design to enhance the interior space and bring natural light into the hallways while reducing energy costs. Exterior upgrades include additional parking, lush tropical landscaping and a welcoming redesigned entrance for students.
On behalf of Adtalem Global Education, developer CRG sourced the location, acquired the land and commissioned Excel Construction of Florida to complete the project. The campus renovations were designed by CRG’s integrated partner and architecture firm, Lamar Johnson Collaborative.
“By tapping CRG’s scalable, vertically integrated platform, we were able to deliver for Adtalem an ideal site and comprehensive design plan to build what is now an ultramodern nursing school in central Florida, equipped with the latest educational technologies to create an immersive learning environment,” said Jason Blum, vice president of development at CRG. “We’re honored by the trust Adtalem placed in us to expand its educational and training facilities for healthcare professionals and thrilled to see this vibrant campus bustling with activity.”
