Former Catholic Health East & Holy Cross Hospital CEO Launches New Career As An Executive Coach

John JohnsonJohn C. Johnson, former executive vice president of ministry operations for Catholic Heath East in Philadelphia and former president and CEO of Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has announced the formation of his own executive coaching firm.

A highly respected leader with a proven track record of success, Johnson is a veteran, bottom line oriented executive who has been successful managing large and complex organizations.  Johnson brings a unique perspective to C-suite and upper-level executives seeking to work with an executive coach. He has extensive development and construction experience and a record of raising consideration capital.

“While my experience as president and CEO of some of the top healthcare organizations in the country gives me a unique perspective on what it takes for organizations and executives to be successful, the issues faced by executives and CEOs in other industries are not dissimilar,” said Johnson.  “My focus is on executive assessment and leadership and organizational development.”

Among the services offered by Johnson include career planning and advancement, development of strategies to increase market presence, serving as the sounding board for a top executive in a new position, and serving as an advisor for struggling businesses.

With Catholic Health East, Johnson provided oversight for ministries in the Southeast, including the BayCare JOA and led mergers and acquisitions. Among his many accomplishments at Holy Cross Hospital, Johnson initiated more than $100 million in capital improvements and construction and raised more than $100 million in philanthropy. Holy Cross Hospital recently announced a $25,000 grant program for food security programs in Broward County in honor of Johnson’s legacy.

Throughout his career, Johnson has been active in professional and community organizations, serving in leadership roles. Among those organizations are Fellow, American College of Healthcare Executives; founder and former chairman of Yankee Alliance (association of 12 hospitals); chairman and director of Applied Management Systems, Inc.; New England Healthcare Assembly (trade and educational association); committee member of the American Hospital Association Regional Advisory Board and a member of the multi-hospital systems council; United Way; and more.

Johnson has been recognized with several prestigious honors and awards including “One of the Top 25 Multi-Hospital Alliance and Group Purchasing Executives” from Healthweek Magazine; Tenet Circle of Excellence Award; Leader of the Year from Leadership Broward; Readers’ Choice Award for Healthcare Industry Leadership from Florida Medical Business; Excellence in Healthcare, CEO category from South Florida Business Journal; and the prestigious Excalibur Award from the Sun-Sentinel; among others.

A graduate of the University of Maine, Orono with a B.A. in Zoology, Johnson also received an MA in Healthcare Administration from George Washington University.  He previously served in the U.S. Army as First Lieutenant, Medical Service Corps. In addition, he was appointed Associate, Family and Community Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
