Guy Harvey Outpost Resorts Launches New Expedition Collection September expedition set for Cuba

September expedition set for Cuba

LAUDERDALE, Fla.  – Fort Lauderdale-based Guy Harvey Outpost Resorts has launched a new Expedition Adventures series under its Expedition Portfolio that kicks off in September with a seven-day diving excursion to Cuba.

The Expedition Collection offers team-led, guided fishing and diving trips that focus on conservation, education and entertainment in such scenic destinations as Cuba, Galápagos, Panama, Isla Mujeres, Little Cayman, and more.

“We are incredibly excited to expand our Expedition Collection and offer these extraordinary educational adventures, beginning with Cuba,” said Cliff Jensen, Director, Sportfishing & Watersports for Guy Harvey Outpost Collection. “Those who join our Cuba expedition are in for a special treat. It will be led by Cuba native Yoel Gonzalez who brings a unique and personal perspective to the trip. As part of our conservation efforts, we will be looking to catch lionfish which are destroying reefs by preying on the native species that don’t recognize them as predators.”

Scheduled for Sept. 14-20, the Expedition Adventure to Cuba includes a Lionfish Derby offered in Maria La Gorda, which is at the far southwest tip of the island, about five hours from Havana. This is the second lionfish tournament offered in Maria La Gorda with the sole purpose of helping to remove this invasive species from the reefs. Lionfish, originally from the Indo-Pacific Ocean, has over the last several years taken over the east coast of the U.S., the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico.

Awards will be presented for the biggest and smallest lionfish caught and for the most lionfish caught. Each team is made up of two participants who can use Hawaiian spears, pole spears and spear guns only. Participants must follow the rules and regulations as instructed by the “Parque Nacional Guanahacabibes” and the Maria La Gorda Diving Center. The chefs in Maria la Gorda will prepare their own lionfish recipes with what is caught during the tournament. The most popular dish will receive an award.

The expedition includes visits to the Hotel Nacional de Cuba, Plaza de la Cathedral, Plaza Vieja, the Rum Museum, El Floridita (Hemingway’s favorite bar) and the Hotel Parque Central roof top, a noche de salsa at Hotel El Florida, dinner at the famous paladares Club 21 and a tour of Old Havana and a tobacco farm tour “Hector Luis, El Hombre Habano” the biggest tobacco producer in Cuba.

The all-inclusive trip is $2,400 for double occupancy. Space is limited to 40 travelers. To register for the trip, visit A non-refundable 50 percent deposit required upon registration and nonrefundable remainder due by August 20, 2016.

Plans are currently underway for additional expeditions in 2017. For more information, visit or call 844-837-2731.
