POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – South Florida community association law firm Kaye & Bender P.L. has named Adam Shamir the first recipient of the Kaye & Bender Scholarship, which is awarded to a student at the Shepard Broad Law Center at Nova Southeastern University.
To be eligible for the $2,500 annual Kaye & Bender Scholarship for the 2010-2011 school year, students must be a second or third year full-time, or fourth year evening student at Nova Southeastern who is in good standing with a grade point average above a 3.0, demonstrate community involvement and have prepared an essay on the challenges facing community associations in South Florida.
“We received many applications from worthy students. However, Adam impressed us with his analysis of how foreclosures are impacting community associations and why this is a serious problem affecting so many people in South Florida,” said Robert Kaye, managing member of Kaye & Bender. “To us, his essay submission clearly demonstrates his potential as a future leader in the South Florida legal community.”
A Sunrise resident, Shamir is a second-year law student who has been active in the community since high school, assisting Plantation High School’s Student Government Association with its Christmas tree lot sale, the school’s largest fundraising event each year. He also volunteers as a counselor at the local Jewish Community Center’s summer camp. While a student at University of Florida, Shamir volunteered at St. Francis House, a homeless shelter and soup kitchen in Gainesville.
“From establishing this scholarship to hiring our students, Kaye & Bender is a valued partner of our law school,” said Athornia Steele, dean of the Shepard Broad Law Center at Nova Southeastern University. “This scholarship provides students with the financial assistance that ultimately helps them to achieve their goals.”
Kaye & Bender provides legal services to more than 700 associations throughout Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties. For more information, visit KayeBenderLaw.com.
