New Shanghai Circus Brings Awe-Inspiring Acrobatics to Aventura Arts & Cultural Center

AVENTURA, Fla. – The awe-inspiring New Shanghai Circus will perform at Aventura Arts & Cultural Center delivering shows that The New York Times describes as “Feats of circus art that reach literally breathtaking heights of skill.” Direct from China, this troupe has been wowing audiences for 16 years with astonishing athletics, defying gravity while fearlessly stretching the limits of human ability. Skilled acrobats, jugglers and contortionists showcase more than 2,000 years of Chinese circus traditions that the Los Angeles Times calls, “Show-stopping rarities of daunting difficulty.”

Founded in 1951 as the Shanghai Acrobatic Theatre, the New Shanghai Circus to date has won more gold, silver and bronze medals in domestic and international circus competitions than any other Chinese acrobatic company. Polished to perfection, the troupe’s singular skills are rooted in the everyday lives of the village peasants, farmers and craftsmen of the Han Dynasty, with traditions dating back to 700 B.C. Today, only a few descendants of the famous old acrobatics families remain, but there are more than 120 modern, professional acrobatic troupes across China.

On stage at Aventura Arts & Cultural Center, the New Shanghai Circus is:

  • Presented as a full-length show on Sunday, February 28 at 2 p.m., tickets are $35 and $40.
  • Presented in an abbreviated version as a Smart Stage Matinee on Monday, February 29 at 10 and 11:30 a.m., tickets are $12 for groups of 10 or more and $13 for individual tickets, with $3 lap seats for infants 12 months or younger
