Weeklong Celebration Includes Live Games, Free Giveaways and Meet & Greets with Former Legends of the Sport
To celebrate the rich history of the fastest ball sport in the world, The Casino @ Dania Beach is hosting Jai-Alai Week, a weeklong celebration Sunday, April 25 through Saturday, May 1.
There will be several exciting events scheduled throughout the week, including a special promotion with Cigar City Brewing and its hugely popular, Jai-Alai IPA, a delicious and citrusy India Pale Ale.
“The main focus of this week is to celebrate Jai-Alai – the past, present and future of the sport; to educate those who don’t know about Jai-Alai, and to re-energize those who love it,” said Benny Bueno, Jai-Alai Player Manager for The Casino @ Dania Beach. “The entire week will be filled with excitement and some very special promotions Wednesday through Friday.”
On Wednesday, April 28 the first 250 guests will receive a free six pack of Jai-Alai beer, with a variety of complimentary samplings served upstairs in the casino’s Sports Lounge from 4-5 p.m. for guests 21-years or older. Thursday, April 29 will be “Throwback Thursday” as two former Dania Beach Jai-Alai legends, Joey Cornblit and Andoni Echaniz, return for a meet and greet with fans. On Friday, April 30 guests may enter a raffle and win autographed Jai-Alai gear including an authentic jersey, official hats and other giveaways. Hosted for more than 60 years at The Casino @ Dania Beach, Jai-Alai has been dubbed as the fastest moving ball sport in the world, by Guinness World Records. Jai-Alai has been played in South Florida since 1924, when the first fronton opened in Hialeah. The sport originated as a handball game in the Basque area of Spain’s Pyrenees Mountains more than four centuries ago. Games were played on Sundays and holidays in small villages at the local church, hence the name Jai-Alai which means “merry festival” in Basque.
Jai Alai IPA is a bold, citrusy and balanced India Pale Ale that involves six different hop varietals. Cigar City Brewing pays homage to the sport and the dedicated players and patrons who keep this Florida tradition alive with its flagship ale. Look for notes of orange peel, clementine, and light caramel to share the story and sunshine of Florida.
The Casino @ Dania Beach, known to have ‘the loosest slots’ in Broward County, is open seven days a week, and features a variety of gaming options, entertainment and an array of dining options. With more than 750 slot machines, a Poker Room, simulcast lounge, Jai-Alai and live performances at Stage 954, there is something fun for everyone.

Health Safety at The Casino @ Dania Beach
The Casino @ Dania Beach implements numerous precautionary and enhanced safety and cleaning measures to keep patrons and staff safe.
Seating inside the Jai Alai fronton at The Casino @ Dania Beach has been modified to account for 6-foot physical distancing between fans, reducing capacity from 400 to 75 guests. Additional self-betting stations have also been added.
There is one main point of entry at the fronton entrance by the guest parking lot. Guests are required to show their Players Club Card or photo ID. Prior to entering, guests are required to pass through a thermal body imaging camera and anyone with a temperature above 100.3 degrees will not be allowed to enter. Staff and guests are required to wear a face mask at all times. The Casino @ Dania Beach is committed to Visit Lauderdale’s Safe + Clean Pledge, abiding by the strictest health and safety standards. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, some hours, procedures, and amenities may change.
