The Frank Art Gallery Presents Free Virtual Series “From The Frank to You”

The City of Pembroke Pines and The Frank Art Gallery is excited to offer the community a free virtual learning space for all ages with the new online series “From The Frank to You.”

“We are thrilled to be launching From The Frank to You and reconnecting with the community through art,” said Taryn Moller Nicoll, chief curator of The Frank. “During these unprecedented times, the arts have played a major role in helping people cope. We hope that through this series, our guests can continue growing and exploring their love of art.”

Available at no charge, From The Frank to You programming includes:

Virtual Drawing & Painting Workshops

When: 10 a.m. on Fridays through May 29, 2020

About: Classically trained artists from FIU’s Academy of Figurative and Portrait Art reveal the secrets of successful portraits, figure drawings, landscape paintings and color theory. Participants will learn one on one with the next generation of masters as they walk viewers through the technical aspects of drawing faces, the human figure and the natural world around them. Basic art materials are required for these courses, such as pencils, paper, water-based paints and brushes.

 

Print & Keep: DIY Arts & Crafts Tutorials

When: 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays

About: Virtual guests will view a photo tutorial of a fun and easy crafts that children and adults can enjoy from home. Using common art supplies and household materials, participants will learn quick and unexpected creative techniques to make a masterpiece of their own.

 

 Virtual Kids’ Corner Storytime 

When: 10 a.m. on Mondays

About: The Frank’s staff members will offer enthusiastic, upbeat readings of children’s books via video recordings. Each reading will be followed by a sweet and simple craft that complements the featured book’s theme or message. To encourage further reading and literacy-based enrichment for children at home, each Kids’ Corner Storytime will end with recommendations of similar book titles that virtual guests can access through Broward County Library’s free digital book download software programs, Overdrive, Axis 360 and Hoopla. Viewers will also be guided on how to sign up for a free library card online.

 

Professional Development for Artists Lecture Series 

When: 10 a.m. on Wednesdays

About: In this video lecture series, established creative professionals share their career development stories and give advice to aspiring creatives who are looking to make an impact in their respective fields. Speakers include: Nerissa Street (screenwriting & acting); David Chang (painting & arts education); Laura Marsh (curatorial work and interdisciplinary art); Lauren Carey (ballet and production); Kandy Lopez (painting & arts education); Raquel Farrell-Kirk (art therapy); Ed King (arts marketing); Kirsten Hines (wildlife photography); and more.

 

Conversations with the Curator

When: 10 a.m. on Fridays starting June 5, 2020

About: In this lighthearted, free flowing audio-based discussion program, Chief Curator of The Frank Taryn Nicoll will interview prominent curators, gallery directors and exhibition coordinators throughout South Florida. Conversation topics will include each curator’s career development story, key resources for curatorial practices, advice to artists for exhibition proposals, favorite exhibition concepts and endearing “behind the scenes” anecdotes.
