Sponsored by PNC Wealth Management, the exhibition showcases sculpture by Fort Lauderdale artist Leah Brown

DAVIE, Fla. – Young At Art Museum (YAA) and YAA’s Bedlam Lorenz Assembly (BLA) present Transformation of Echo: World of Dreams, a hyper-natural menagerie and sculptural installation by Fort Lauderdale-based artist Leah Brown that captures the state of mind between something real and something imaginary. Sponsored by PNC Wealth Management, the exhibition will open to the public on Saturday, June 6 and run through Sunday, January 3, 2016, at the Museum, located at located at 751 S.W. 121 Ave. in Davie.

“Through the association with Young At Art, we’re able to strengthen and enrich the lives of children in South Florida by supporting exhibits like the World of Dreams,” said Cressman Bronson, PNC regional president for eastern Florida. “We believe that a rich arts community is a significant driver of our economic success, but most importantly, children who learn about the arts early in life are more likely to remain involved and connected to the arts later on.”

For this exhibition, Brown will include poetic sculptures that are hauntingly eye-catching, with a fabric landscape and video projection of towering figures cloaked in white. The magnificent pieces are created from clay, using found objects, fabric and hair, which then are cast into plaster and reinforced with fiberglass to create the dreamlike wonderland.

Brown explains that Lewis Carrol’s Through the Looking Glass Alice in Wonderland is in part what inspired this work – enacting entering into a surreal world of mythical creatures, illusions and dreams created by the two sides of the mirror.

Childhood memories of encounters with deer and other animals also influenced the creation of her hybrid “animal people,” which she attempts to re-invoke into her nightly dreams through the act of sculpting them.

Brown says her goal with this installation is to transform the entire Knight Gallery at Young At Art Museum into a metaphor of the mind.

“We are so grateful to PNC for enabling us to share Leah’s dream-inspiring exhibition with our visitors,” said Young At Art Museum Executive Director/CEO Mindy Shrago. “Imagination is one of the ultimate creative powers and we hope to inspire everyone who walks into her dream-like world.”
