This February, Visit Lauderdale will celebrate Greater Fort Lauderdale’s rich diversity with several Black History Month events and happenings throughout the area. With more than 170 countries represented, inclusivity is one of Greater Fort Lauderdale’s strengths — and part of what makes it a multicultural hotspot. City of Pompano Beach Cultural Arts
The music of Nat King Cole – the jazz legend, singer, pianist, and actor will be on full display during “Cole, The Birth of a King.” Tribute artist Darrell Cole will take guests on a musical journey as he performs Cole’s timeless classics.

Arts Park at Young Circle
Celebrate Black-history month with a family-friendly movie on the lawn every Friday in February. Bring a big blanket or a lawn chair for seating to watch “Akeelah and the Bee” on February 2, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” on February 9, “Creed III” on February 16, and “The Great Debaters: on February 23.

Amaturo Theater at Broward Center for Performing Arts
A musical comedy based on the Sister Act film, which debuted in 1992. This uplifting musical was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Miramar Cultural Center Banquet Hall/Ansin Family Art Gallery
The newest art gallery at the Miramar Cultural Center features Redlining, an exhibit that takes a dive deep into the systemic discriminatory practice of redlining. During this free event, attendees can participate in a question-and-answer session with the artist, curator, and other partners.

Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker
As one of the greatest performers of all time, the MJ Live! tribute show will pay honor to the legendary Michael Jackson with a performance from his vast musical catalog, including hits like “Billie Jean,” “Bad,” “Thriller,” and a few Jackson 5 classics like “I Want You Back” and “ABC.”

Atlanta’s top all-black orchestra will take hip-hop to another level in this high energy concert Maestro Jason Ikeem Rodgers will conduct the orchestra and celebrate 50 years of hip-hop, bringing Trina’s biggest hits and other famed hip-hop anthems to life.
February 11, 2024, 3 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Pompano Beach Library & Cultural Center
This powerful ballet celebrates American blues and its role in helping African Americans overcome incredible obstacles on their journey to freedom and pursuit of liberty and justice. Featuring music from blues greats like Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald, as well as poetic narration, modern jazz, tap and hip-hop dancing.

Amerant Bank Arena
Popular ’90s R&B artist Keith Sweat will be joined by SWV and Pretty Ricky when he brings his farewell tour to the Greater Fort Lauderdale area for a nostalgic performance.

Arts United
Local artists will blend their talents together for a unique ensemble. The cast includes R&B/pop recording artist Jon Davis, pop singer and spoken word artist Alexandria Thomas, classical pianist Sam Fray, and Haitian-born opera singer Jean Valliant.

Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino
This hilarious comedy show features top comedians such as “Next Friday” star, Mike Epps; DeRay Davis from the hit Netflix special, “DeRay Davis: How to Act Black”; “Wild ‘N Out” stars DC Young Fly and Chico Bean; “Smile (Living My Best Life)”; Jacksonville, Florida native Lil Duval; rising star Mojo Brookzz; and pioneer of hip-hop subgenre trap music, Tip (T.I.) Harris. Recommended for ages 18 & up.

Island SPACE Caribbean Museum
The first-ever Reggae Genealogy is more than a concert, it’s a one-of-a-kind, pioneering musical event. Presented by Island SPACE Caribbean Museum, education and entertainment will merge during this multicultural experience which explores the dynamic origins, evolution and influence of Jamaican music on popular genres like hip-hop, EDM, Reggaeton and Afrobeats. Featuring live performances by reggae artists and personalities such as Mykal Rose, the Code Red Band, Yvad, Winston Barnes, G Cole and the Tallaway Mento Band will be weaved in with historical videos.

Tamarac Sports Complex
Presented by the City of Tamarac, this free festival will celebrate the many cultures that comprise Greater Fort Lauderdale. The special event will feature a variety of musical acts, including a steel drum performance by Ra’Von Steely Rhoden and The Warrior Love Band, the Delou Africa Dance Ensemble, a laser light show, food vendors and a fun zone for the kids.

Miramar Regional Park Amphitheater
The fourth annual Afro-Carib Festival celebrates the diverse music, culture, and cuisines of the African and Caribbean diasporas. Featuring live performances from chart-topping artists like Fireboy DML, Kabaka Pyramid, Kenny Haiti, Yung Wylin’, David Lucca, and Nadine Sutherland – whose musical talents were nurtured by the late great Bob Marley.
February 24, 2024, 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Sistrunk Corridor
Black history comes alive at the annual Sistrunk Historical Festival & Parade which presents the richness of Greater Fort Lauderdale’s multi-cultural flavor and strong traditions, The festival kicks off with a 5K run followed by a lively parade featuring local marching bands, step teams, eye-catching cars, and decorated floats. Fun for the entire family, the street festival kicks off at 11 a.m. with live music, a kid’s zone and plenty of food and games.
