For the YMCA of South Florida, Pierson Grant provides PR support for the organization’s community outreach programs and signature fundraising events covering the non-profit’s 12 locations in Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.

Pierson Grant began working with the Y as it embarked on the opening of the new, landmark $20 million L.A. Lee YMCA/Mizell Community Center on Sistrunk Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale to help revitalize the historically African-American neighborhood.  The opening was covered by every TV station and most other media outlets.

Immediately after that event, Pierson Grant Public Relations successfully promoted the opening of the Y’s La Bodega Community Food Pantry in Allapattah to help address high food insecurity rates in Miami-Dade County.  Our work garnered TV, radio, online and print coverage.  As a result of the positive media attention, La Bodega was chosen by WPLG Local 10 News as one of the participants and recipients of its Food for Thought campaign during Hunger Action Month that year.

Building on that success, our agency continued to work closely with the Y to identify potential award opportunities for which the organization could apply and be recognized.

Within a year, YMCA of South Florida was named as Business of the Year by South Florida Business Journal and YMCA CEO Sheryl Woods was named Leader of the Year during the 211 Broward Non-Profit Awards honoring outstanding non-profit organizations in the community.
