Young At Art Museum Presents Magic & Mayhem: The Art of Iconic Toys Featuring Toy Collections of Transformers® and My Little Pony®

DAVIE, Fla.Young At Art Museum presents Magic & Mayhem: The Art of Iconic Toys, an exhibition that explores and showcases the cultural impact of iconic toys and the passion for collecting them, from January 30 through May 29, 2016 at the Museum, located at 751 SW 121 Ave. in Davie. Curated by YAA’s design team in conjunction with artists and local collectors, the exhibition features two of the most iconic toys of the past decades: Transformers® and My Little Pony®.

Magic & Mayhem will transform YAA’s Knight Gallery to give visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of collecting through interactive art stations. In the Collector’s Alley, displays of merchandise from toys to clothing to accessories will be intertwined with first-hand accounts by local collectors, which chronicle how and why they collect. In the Toy Store, visitors can build their own transformer-inspired bots, design their own pony-inspired silhouettes and use iPads to create stop-motion short films. The Art of Collecting area will feature murals, sculpture, photography and mixed-media works by contemporary artists who are inspired by iconic toys and their own passion for collecting. Representing South Florida are Christopher Ian MacFarlane and Tatiana Suarez. Other contributing artists include JeongMee Yoon, Ruben Santurian, Eli Barak, and Autumn Casey. Included in this area of the exhibition will be two large murals painted by MacFarlane and Suarez. Another wall will feature a photographic display by Yoon, whose work documents children and their toy collections. Along the hallway leading visitors into the Knight Gallery, there will be several sculptural works by Santurian, created from recycled metal and other materials.  Barack and Casey will exhibit their various works Throughout the Knight Gallery.
